“The breeding and breeding season now begins for many wild animals.

The persistent wetness promotes illnesses in offspring and young rabbits,” explains the German Hunting Association (DJV) on its Facebook page.

Since the animals are precocious and, unlike foxes or rabbits that nest, do not have a cave for shelter, they are permanently exposed to the weather.

Constant rainfall softens the soil, causing fur or feathers to stick together and provide poor insulation.

This puts the boys' immune systems to a tough test.

A good reason to be extra careful while walking the dog.

“Staying on the paths is the best way to avoid stress in nature’s nursery,” explains DJV executive board member Detlef Zacharias.

Five tips for a considerate walk in the forest

To ensure that all animals feel comfortable in nature, you should keep a few things in mind while walking:

  • Looking is allowed, but touching is forbidden.

“Anyone who touches young animals can make them orphans,” warns the DJV.

Even when they are alone, young wild animals are not lonely and helpless.

The mother deer is always nearby, but stays at a distance to protect her fawn.

Thanks to the good camouflage, the offspring escapes predators such as foxes.

  • Stay on the paths and pay attention to signs.

For orientation and your own safety, there are some information boards, signs and barriers in the forest.

Follow the instructions and stay on the designated paths.

Because young animals and nests are difficult to recognize.

By the time you do see them, it is often too late.

  • Keep your dog on a leash.

There are a few wolf genes in every dog.

When going for a walk, you should have your dog under control at all times - on a leash if necessary.

  • Be careful when encountering wild boars.

The animals strongly defend their young.

A walk in the forest can quickly become dangerous for curious dogs.

Therefore, keep as much distance as possible from your four-legged friend.

  • Have you found a helpless young animal?

Keep your distance and observe it.

If you are unsure, tell a hunter or forest ranger.

You can also contact the police to get help.
