Easter is always expensive: less than previous years with inflation at 0.8% but this year Italians will still have to shell out a total of a billion more to eat and travel.
This was noted by Assoutenti, who calculated the various items, estimating a total expense of 2.2 billion.
Food prices grow on average by 4% on an annual basis, with peaks of 46.2% for olive oil and 11.1% for fresh fruit.
An upward trend that also affects some typical Easter food and wine products, such as sheep and goat meat or cured meats, which rise by 3.8%.
Bad news also for those who travel to return to their family during the holidays or to treat themselves to a few days of vacation: train fares have increased in the last month by 5.9% on an annual basis, while for a plane ticket to national destinations the cost rises on average 13.1%, +5.7% if you choose a European destination, +8.7% for all-inclusive holiday package prices.
Sleeping away from home will also be more expensive: the rates of hotels and motels are growing at a rate of +6.9%, and those of other accommodation facilities (b&bs, holiday homes, apartments, etc.) are even more expensive by +9.1%.
To dine at a restaurant the average expense is now 3.9% more expensive than last year, and even to visit museums and historical monuments people spend 3.9% more.
Increases that will be reflected in family spending on the occasion of Easter: with consumption being equal compared to 2023, the expense of setting the tables will reach 2.2 billion euros this year, while 430 million euros will be spent on Easter lunch at restaurants.
The real blow, however, will be the one on travel and travel, with an increase in spending estimated at +700 million euros compared to last year.
