My news

?

Working with Stéphane Brizé, whose ability to move from one universe to another I like.

There is nothing generic about his cinema, and that is precisely what I look for in the projects I accept.

Stéphane and I also have a common obsession: the quest for truth.

My character in

Off-season

?

A daring and surprising woman.

On paper, she has an orderly life, married a man who doesn't seem to thrill her, chose to protect herself by sacrificing her career as a pianist... And yet, while we don't expect that from her, she dares to put herself in danger when her youthful love reappears.

What do I share with her

?

A curiosity about human beings.

But she made lukewarm life choices, so as not to get burned.

I'm the complete opposite.

I need to feel alive too much to protect myself.

My partner

?

I had met Guillaume Canet in Cannes, and I knew his work as an actor and director well.

He was a very generous and attentive partner.

A gift, like this film.

The quest for truth for me is an obsession

Alba Rohrwacher

A memory from filming

?

My solitude facing the Breton sea spray, the blowing of the wind, the raging waves.

Enough to put you in the ideal state to portray this woman who is breathing again.

Why should you go see this film

?

Because it is a source of vitality.

It makes you want to fall or fall in love again.

And if, like me, you already love it, it speeds up the palpitations of your heart.

Talking about me on promotion, a chore

?

Less so today, but when I started it was a nightmare.

I was so stuck that I was the bane of Italian journalists.

Today, with experience, I am freer.

I understood that my life belongs only to me and that it is up to me to choose what I reveal.

I need to feel alive too much to protect myself

Alba Rohrwacher

Do I lie in interviews

?

I can't do it, but I refuse to answer questions that make me uncomfortable.

Warrior mode or seduction in an interview

?

Neither, but I have a different approach to exercise depending on the country.

In Italy, I did so much promotion that I got bored of myself.

I can't get along anymore.

In France, as people know me less, it often seems different to me, new.

And more generally, I like interviews that move me and give me the ability to think, to escape automatisms.

Still the sacred fire

?

I would speak of vocation.

On the last page of

Little Virtues

, the Italian writer Natalia Ginzburg speaks to her children: “If there is one thing I have always wished for you, it is that you find your vocation.”

This sentence stuck with me because I was lucky enough to find mine very quickly.

Acting imposed itself on me, almost irrationally.

For me, playing is making peace with yourself

Alba Rohrwacher

What makes me tick in this profession

?

Colette said she felt good on stage because she was no longer there herself.

I understand.

Playing, for me, is making peace with yourself.

What am I going to do after this interview

?

Make myself something to eat and go to bed early to best promote the

off-season,

but also to be in good shape to celebrate my birthday in the coming days.

Off-season,

by Stéphane Brizé, with Guillaume Canet, Alba Rohrwacher, Sharif Andoura… Released March 20.
