A woman described as the "passenger from hell" went on a rampage on an Australian Jetstar flight to Bali, Indonesia, on Monday morning, forcing the pilots of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to make an unplanned diversion an hour and a half into the five-hour flight.
The dramatic video, below, surfaced on the X Network and shows the passenger screaming at another passenger, while other passengers stand around her and watch helplessly as the plane passes by.
Lowcost Jetstar flight JQ43 to Denpasar departed Melbourne shortly before 11am on Monday Australian time when the pilots made a U-turn and returned to Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport.
Some reports claim that the woman started banging on the cockpit door after accusing one of the passengers of stealing her cell phone.
She then allegedly went on a rampage throughout the plane, yelling and screaming at random people and pushing aside passengers who were next to her.
"Difficult experience for other passengers"
In a statement, a spokesperson for Jetstar confirmed that "the captain decided to return to Melbourne to receive assistance from the Australian Federal Police after the passenger became disruptive almost two hours into the flight. We know this has been a difficult experience for other passengers and our crew members, and we thank those who assisted in the situation ", according to the statement.
"Due to the circumstances, several crew members were unable to continue flying."
The airline stated that the flight was rescheduled for 10 am on Tuesday and that passengers affected by the delay will be provided with hotel accommodation.
They will also be able to claim "reasonable" expenses.
"The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority," a Jetsetter spokesperson noted.
Witnesses on the plane described how the flight attendants and kind-hearted passengers helped restrain the woman in the back of the plane as it returned to Melbourne.
