Ten penitentiary police officers on duty at the Foggia prison were issued with a precautionary detention order under house arrest on charges of torture, abuse of office, abuse of authority against arrested or detained persons, failure to perform official duties, damage, extortion, ideological falsehood committed by a public official in public acts, suppression, destruction and concealment of true acts.
The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Foggia court at the request of the prosecutor's office who coordinated the investigations by the police.
The suspects are held responsible for having participated in various capacities in a violent beating, carried out on 11 August 2023 in the Foggia prison, against two inmates.
During the investigations, the preparation and signing of false documents aimed at hiding the violence committed and preventing diagnoses of the injuries suffered by the prisoners from being issued was discovered.
Furthermore, threats and promises of retaliation were also ascertained through which two suspects forced the victims to sign false declarations in which they provided a version of events denied by the results of the investigations.
