Mountaineer Reinhold Messner has received the second boot of his brother Günther, who died 54 years ago on Nanga Parbat.
"Today finally Günther's second boot arrived from Pakistan, and Liver Khan gave it to me. The conspiracy theories about Günther and the Nanga Parbat tragedy are finally disproved. Günther, thank you, I'm thinking of you", wrote Günther yesterday on social media. South Tyrolean mountaineer.
For many years, in fact, Messner was accused of having abandoned his brother at altitude to reach the summit.
Günther's remains were found in 2005, together with a boot, while the second shoe was found in June 2022.
"The discovery of the remains and of a boot demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that Günther died during the descent and was not abandoned by me during the ascent", declared Messner on the occasion of the first discovery.
