Coffee is not only very popular among Italians, French and Dutch people, filter coffee and coffee with milk are also among the drinks consumed in Germany.
Thanks to its caffeine content, the pick-me-up helps to keep the mind alert and in certain quantities, coffee also has health-promoting effects with protection against depression and stroke.

A large study by the
Baker Heart and Diabetes Research Institute
in Melbourne, Australia, shows that coffee can prevent cardiovascular disease,

The research results were published in the
European Journal of Preventive Cardiology
.
The study examined 449,563 study participants without cardiovascular disease.
Over a period of twelve years, the scientists analyzed people with an average age of 58, including 55.3 percent women and 44.7 percent men.
The subjects were divided into two groups: those who drank coffee and those who abstained from coffee.
At the same time, the researchers paid attention to the development of cardiovascular diseases through coffee consumption, such as heart attack, heart failure or stroke.

What the research showed was that over 43,000 participants who didn't drink coffee suffered from heart failure or a stroke over the years.
However, those who drank two to three cups of coffee per day had the lowest risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

The study also showed that regular coffee consumption reduces mortality from cardiovascular diseases: the mortality of the subjects who consumed one to five cups of coffee a day was lowest.
