Carol Maltesi was "killed for a constant common thread, almost a common denominator of similar crimes and of the same nature: because she was not a man but a woman", punished with "vengeful intent" because she sought "her independence, economic and personal".
The Court of Appeal of Milan wrote this in the reasons for the sentence with which, on 21 February, it increased the sentence for Davide Fontana, a 45-year-old banker who killed his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend in Rescaldina on 11 January 2022 from 30 years to life in prison.
A "barbarism" in which the judges of second instance recognized the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and cruelty.
