"It is essential that this aspect be addressed promptly. The number of suicides in prisons demonstrates that urgent interventions are needed. It is important and indispensable to address the problem immediately and urgently. All this must be done out of respect for the values of our Constitution, out of respect of those who are detained in prisons and for those who work there".
This is what the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, asked when speaking to the prison police received at the Quirinale.
