In the year of the European elections (from 6 to 9 June 2024), the social promotion association La Nuova Europa organizes a study-tour in Brussels for the boys and girls who attend the School of Europe, in collaboration with the Representation EU in Italy.

Two intense days which aim to bring young generations closer to the institutions, with visits and meetings at the Parliament and the European Commission.

Thematic meetings on gender equality, the rule of law, environmental policy, digital and defense policy, which come after five other in-depth meetings in various Roman schools and before the final meeting on 26 March at the Liceo Mamiani, which it will also be an opportunity to debrief on the training path and the journey just completed.

For each edition, the School of Europe provides a special initiative, which can stimulate new reflections on the future of our continent in boys and girls.

The special event of the 2024 edition - which focuses on the European elections in such a difficult historical moment, with the war in Europe and the Middle East - is the

stage reading of the Ventotene Manifesto

.

The idea of organizing it also in the prestigious seat of the Brussels Parliament was shared with the MEP and president of the Union of European Federalists Domènec Ruiz Devesa on the occasion of the presentation and delivery, to the Municipality of Ventotene, of the Spinelli Group document Proposal for a Manifesto for a federal Europe: sovereign, social and ecological, last September 2nd.

Document then also delivered to the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, with an official ceremony in the Library, on 11 October 2023.

Compared to previous readings, the novelty lies in juxtaposing the two documents, in an ideal continuity with the innovative result of the original text of 1941 in which the idea of a united federal Europe takes shape for the first time and in peace.

The selection of the texts of both documents is by Piero Graglia, professor of History of International Relations at the University of Milan, biographer of Altiero Spinelli and member of the scientific committee of the association La Nuova Europa, who in the reading will also have the role of narrator.

The reading of the passages from the 1941 Manifesto is scripted and directed by director Sandro Mabellini, and is entrusted to the actors Francesco Italiano, in the role of Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi, and Vanessa Compagnucci, in the role of Ursula Hirschmann;

then follows the reading of the most significant passages from the "new" Manifesto by the European parliamentarians Pietro Bartolo, Sabrina Pignedoli and Mercedes Bresso, who will also answer questions from the audience in the room, made up mainly of young people from Italy and from the Italian section of European School in Brussels, around fifty boys and girls in their first grade.

It will be an opportunity to dialogue on the themes presented by the "new" Manifesto for a federal Europe: sovereign, social, ecological: namely the environment, European defense and relations with the rest of the world, migration and solidarity, modification of the treaties.

After greetings from the president of the Spinelli Group Sandro Gozi, the event - which enjoys the high patronage of the European Parliament and the patronage of the Municipality of Ventotene - will be hosted by the MEP Domènec Ruiz Devesa and commented by Roberto Sommella, president of the association The New Europe.

The School of Europe - now in its twelfth edition - is a training project for European citizenship supported by ACRI, an association of Foundations and Savings Banks.
