"Obviously schools cannot establish new holidays directly or indirectly": the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara underlined this when responding to a question on the closing day decided by the comprehensive institute of Pioltello, in the Milan area, on the day of the end of Ramadan.
"My objective - he said on the sidelines of the presentation of Cima's Smart Factory Lab at the Milan Innovation District - is to enforce the law, legality, the rules. The school calendar is defined by the Lombardy Region. Schools can make exceptions for proven needs related to the level of training provision".
The regional school office of Lombardy is carrying out checks on the choice of the state comprehensive school Iqbal Masih in Pioltello to set a holiday for 10 April, the end of Ramadan.
The Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara, who yesterday announced that he had requested investigations, explained that "the regional school office is verifying first of all whether the resolution" with which this calendar choice was made "has been justified, because the resolutions in derogation from the regional calendar they must always be motivated".
"And secondly - he added - if this exemption actually corresponds to needs of an educational nature linked to the training offer plan. After which the school office will make its appropriate assessments. It is a problem of respect for the law and rules".
