In March, Thea Dorn will discuss new publications with guests that are worth reading.

On Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11:30 p.m., Thea Dorn will again moderate the next round of the “Literary Quartet” on ZDF.
At her side are the writer and literary critic Iris Radisch as well as the authors and journalists Cornelius Pollmer and Jan Fleischhauer.
Together they discuss the new book arrivals of the spring.
These include books by Barbara Kingsolver, Stephan Wackwitz and Timon Karl Kaleyta.
The new translation of the novel “Treibgut” by Julien Green, which was first published in German in 1932, is also discussed.
The program is available from 10 a.m. on the same day in the ZDFmediathek.

Barbara Kingsolver “Demon Copperhead”
Demon Copperhead was born in a run-down trailer in the woods of Virginia.
His mother, an 18-year-old teenager battling opioid addiction, makes a living in a supermarket, while his father is deceased.

Stephan Wackwitz “Secret of Return”
The author spent more than a quarter of a century outside of Germany.
On behalf of the Goethe-Institut he worked in cities such as London, Tokyo, Krakow, Bratislava, New York, Tbilisi and Minsk.
Almost three decades of encounters with people and ideas sharpened his view of his home country.
But at least as exciting as the external journey of life is the internal one that Wackwitz follows here: from a pietistic monastery student in the Swabian province to the confused young Marxist of the 1970s and from there to a convinced liberal of Anglo-Saxon character and cultural diplomat on behalf of the Goethe Institute.

Literary salon instead of debate round from May
Thea Dorn has re-invented “The Literary Quartet”.
She transformed it from a traditional critics' group into a literary salon modeled on the numerous book clubs in the country.
Four culturally knowledgeable and passionate book lovers debate which novels are really worth reading, which books can claim social or aesthetic significance, and which readings you can safely put aside.
“The Literary Quartet” looks back on a long and successful history.
This is inextricably linked to Marcel Reich-Ranicki, who gave literary criticism on television a cult status from 1988 until his last broadcast in 2001.
The founding members included Sigrid Löffler, Helmut Karasek and Jürgen Busche.
“The Literary Quartet” will be recorded in the Berliner Ensemble’s grand foyer.
