Senior dog overjoyed in new home
Velcro, formerly known as Beluga, had been looking for a loving home at the animal shelter since 2022.
His age brought not only arthritis, but also an unknown past that led to trust issues and progressive physical problems.
But his heart longed for love, and Jeanette should be the one to give it to him.
Jeanette, 75 years old and recently scarred by the loss of her two older dogs, opened her heart and her home to Velcro.
She was looking for a quiet companion and the connection between Jeanette and Velcro was immediately noticeable.
So she decided to take him in as a foster dog with every intention of adopting him.
This little dog and the pensioner are also best friends.

Benefits of Adopting Senior Dogs
With the story of Jeanette and Velcro, the animal welfare organization not only wants to highlight the unique bond between humans and animals, but also encourage others not to overlook dogs with special needs and older four-legged friends.
Jeanette emphasizes that these animals deserve just as much love and can build a deep, fulfilling relationship in return.
“They deserve love, and they give as much as they get,” says Jeanette.
“They respond to love just as well, if not more so, than younger dogs.
Velcro adopted me – he chose me.” Fate also brought this dog grandpa together with a 100-year-old.

Also because adopting older dogs can give you a lot and bring advantages.
Which ones are they?

Gratitude
Older animals understand the art of finding joy in the simple things in life.
They value delicious food, a comfortable place, peace and quiet and the loving attention of their people.
Through their experience and calmness, they contribute to a relaxed atmosphere and do not hesitate to show their deep gratitude and love.
Established Character
With an older animal, the guesswork about its future size and character is eliminated because these have already developed.
This makes it much easier to decide whether the animal is a good fit for the family (and vice versa).
Less effort
Older animals generally require less activity compared to younger animals, which are quite lively.
This makes them particularly suitable for people who want a pet but cannot afford the time and energy for intensive care.
An old dog is also a suitable companion for people who are not so mobile and would like to go on shorter walks.
Dogs 1x1 sitting
If you choose a senior, you can assume that the four-legged friend has received basic training.
The dogs should at least know the basic commands such as “sit”, “down” and “stay”.
Additionally, senior dogs are used to walking on a leash and usually know what is expected of them.
But that doesn't make an older dog boring because they can still learn new tricks.
Less Change
Unlike puppies, who keep their owners busy with training, seniors bring gentler changes.
They are already trained and often ensure quiet nights.
