The United States remains committed to defending the Philippines from armed attacks in the South China Sea.
“These waterways are fundamental to the Philippines, to its security, to its economy, but they are also fundamental to the interests of the region, of the United States and of the world,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken, engaged in Manila in a joint press conference with his Philippine counterpart Enrique Manalo.
"That's why we stand with the Philippines and maintain our strong defense commitments, including under the Mutual Defense Treaty," Blinken added.
