14 times as expensive as the cream from Lidl, but Lancôme from L'Oréal comes out on top at Stiftung Warentest.

And that's not the only point of criticism of the luxury brand.

Munich – The skin suffers from dryness and itching, especially in winter.

This is mainly due to dry heating air, cold and low humidity.

Reason enough for many people to buy a nourishing face cream.

The range of moisturizers is enormous - but which one is best for the colder months?

Stiftung Warentest tested 14 day creams for dry skin and came to a surprising result.

A total of 22 participants between the ages of 20 and 70 tested different day creams for two weeks.

Products from drugstores such as Rossmann, food retailers such as Lidl, pharmacies and perfumeries were selected.

Included were brands such as Weleda, Cien (Lidl), Lancôme, Florena and Alterra (Rossmann).

The prices of the products varied between 1.65 euros and 60 euros.

“We then measured which cream was best at enriching the skin with moisture,” explains Stiftung Warentest.

The conclusion is positive and clearly shows: A moisturizer does not have to be expensive to have a good effect.

A day care product from the discounter Lidl came in third place - well above the luxury brand Lancôme from L'Oréal.

These are the test winners: cream from Lidl's own brand surprisingly far ahead

Neutrogena day care was particularly impressive at Stiftung Warentest.

With a quality rating of 1.9 (Good), the brand, which is in the middle price segment at 10 euros per 50 milliliters, came in first place. “Only it manages to moisturize the skin very well,” is the reasoning.

Just below Neutrogena and almost as good, Florena comes in second place and Cien from Lidl in third place. Lidl's own brand is available in stores for just 1.65 euros.

The testers were impressed by the moisture enrichment as well as the application and the feel on the skin.

  • 1st place:

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Aqua Cream (Good 1.9)

  • 2nd place:

Florena day care olive oil (Good 2.0)

  • 3rd place:

Lidl own brand Cien rich day care (Good, 2.0)

Day creams in the test: luxury brand Lancôme comes in last place

The luxury brand Lancôme from L'Oréal achieved a disappointing result.

The Lancôme day cream - with a price of 23.10 euros - is in last place and is therefore at the bottom of the evaluation.

“It costs fourteen times as much as the Lidl cream, is only satisfactory in terms of moisture enrichment and is also in a deceptive package,” says Stiftung Warentest.

The premium brand failed with a rating of “unsatisfactory”, particularly when it came to packaging.

The main reason for this is the large packaging, which promises more content than is actually inside.

Florena, for example, does it much better and packages the product in a smaller jar and box.

When it comes to packaging and packaging waste, less is more.

Stiftung Warentest also took a close look at fish fingers.

Only two products achieved a good result.
