For Stella Assange "the persecution of Julian", her husband and co-founder of Wikileaks, "is an attack on Western democracies".

But it goes further.

"If Julian is not saved he risks ending up like Navalny" she argued in Perugia where she received one of the "Federico Caffe'" prizes on behalf of her husband in a two-day event dedicated to him at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Umbrian capital.

The Caffe' Group, made up of around 700 members who recognize themselves in the work and example of the economist, has chosen the winners from among illustrious figures who have distinguished themselves in the fields of economic policy, business and journalism.

"Julian and Navalny - said the wife of the Australian activist speaking to ANSA - are in the same position, both are political prisoners and for this reason I also criticized Ursula von der Leyen who only defended Navalny. In recent years - she has continued - I was scared for Julian's life, there were signs that made me fear for him."

"Julian should be free - said Stella Assange - and he shouldn't have spent even a day in prison. I met him yesterday morning and every day is suffering for him because he has been in a maximum security prison for five years" .

"For Julian there are easier days and more difficult days," she explained again.

However, the woman did not want to go into the merits of the latest possible developments in the affair concerning Assange.

"I would prefer not to talk about this thing - he said - and leave the word to the lawyers. In any case there will be further developments later".

"Our appeal is to free Julian, make him return home and restore our democratic principles" reiterated Stella Assange, who returned from Perugia to ask for her husband's release from prison.

“Julian's incarceration is not only something that goes against democratic values, but goes much further and attacks our entire system,” she continued.

For Stella Assange, however, there is also the desire to look to the future.

She imagining him together with her husband.

"When Julian is free again - she said - we will spend time together, we will eat together and we will be together enjoying the freedom".
