- "Thanks to Italy and Giorgia Meloni we are once again talking about agriculture at the highest levels. With the strategic document that I presented in Agrifish on the revision of the CAP, our nation has laid the foundations for calling into question the intrinsic value and future horizons of the Common Agricultural Policy and today has managed to restore centrality to the sector. The substantial contents of the document, shared with the trade organisations, were taken up and approved in the conclusions of the EU Council in Brussels. A very important step forward which took shape above all thanks to the work carried out by Italy", said the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida.
"An exceptional result has been achieved, which paves the way for a rediscovered centrality and consolidation of the strategic role of agriculture. The European Council underlined the importance of the agricultural sector for food security and the strategic autonomy of the Union , the value of rural communities and the essential role of the common agricultural policy", continued the minister.
"In the conclusions, the Council called on the EU Commission and Agrifish to work on extraordinary measures, such as simplification, fair income, additional support tools, such as the extension of the temporary framework on state aid and fair competition , based on rules both at a global level and in the internal market. All points on which the Meloni Government has insisted in all international forums since its inception. The Council also discussed the regulation of wheat imports from 'Est. More rigid measures have been announced that will regulate wheat imports and can prevent market destabilization", concluded the minister.
