Igor Tudor may be reluctant to talk about new formations and tactical changes, but today he made it clear that he is motivated to give everything for Lazio, regardless of how long he remains on the Biancoceleste bench.
A sentence from the new Biancoceleste coach, in the press conference in Formello, is emblematic: "I like to win, not to entertain the team. But I'm also the same as if I watch a match on TV and after 15 minutes I don't like it, I change the channel I believe that you shouldn't win by chance, but you can do it without giving up anything. Then if you have to lock down to win, you do it."
The primary objective will be to collect points, therefore, and if you do it by playing well, even better.
Tudor brings together a team ninth in the standings which, in the remaining nine days of the championship, will attempt to reach fifth place in the Champions League (without forgetting the double commitment in the Italian Cup with Juventus).
"We want to start strong straight away - continues the coach - The match of 30 against the Bianconeri in the championship? I always give 100%, in fact I hammer my players more against the so-called small teams".
The Croatian coach doesn't think about the future ("I live from the present and from work: if I do well everyone is happy, otherwise I move on"), and he doesn't see himself in the term 'iron sergeant': "It's a bad description. As he said president Lotito, you need a bit of carrot and a bit of stick. However, I can say that in four days here I have never had to raise my voice in training."
His new boys made a very good impression on him: "They have a work culture for which Sarri deserves credit. Then they know that we can and must do better, but seeing so much professionalism is a good start."
We then talk about the individual players: on the possibility of revitalizing Kamada with a change of formation, Tudor remains vague ("It's a question of playing style, not of formations"), then he smiles when talking about Guendouzi, trained in Marseille: "And "He's a sanguine boy, someone who, if there are 100 games, wants to play them all."
Tudor then quickly focuses on Immobile: "He made history here, there is great love for him from all the Lazio players. He is ready to make his contribution, he is the captain".
Tudor does not rule out seeing the centre-forward in the cup with Castellanos one day ("It could happen that we play with two strikers"), while he never goes unbalanced regarding the formations and the possible transition to 3-4-2-1.
"I like offensive football, then balance is always needed; also seeing the type of players we have, we will understand what we can afford."
The coach then reveals that as a player he had the opportunity to come to Lazio on loan.
"My great friend Alen Boksic played here, we exchanged messages after my arrival."
The experiences in Greece and Turkey have left "a fund of fundamental experience" to the coach, who closes by talking about Luis Alberto ("He has been here for many years, he is a strong player, he has been here for many years, I see him motivated and eager ") and explaining that Lazio is not at the end of the cycle: "It's a way of saying that doesn't belong to me. More than age, there are other characteristics that make the difference."
