After weeks of rumors about her health, the Princess of Wales revealed in a video that cancer was discovered after abdominal surgery she underwent in January.

"I'm doing well."

Kate Middleton announced this Friday March 22 in a video posted on Instagram that she had cancer and was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

The announcement comes after weeks of speculation about her health, and two months after the Princess of Wales, 42, was admitted to the London Clinic for "scheduled abdominal surgery".

“In January I had a major abdominal operation in London.

At that time, I was told that my condition was not cancerous,” she begins, with dignity, in the video posted on the Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

“The operation was successful.

However, tests after the operation revealed the presence of cancer.

My medical team therefore advised me to undergo preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, King Charles III said he was “proud” of his daughter-in-law.

Sitting on a bench in a garden, dressed in jeans and a sailor sweater, Kate Middleton appears serene but moved.

After thanking the many messages of support received, she explains that she wanted to take the time to explain to her three children “in the most appropriate way”.

“It took us a while to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis,” her three children with Prince William, she said.

“As I told them, I am doing well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal,” she added, saying she hopes the public will understand that “as a family, we need time, space and privacy while I continue my treatment.

This is Kate Middleton's first official appearance since the traditional Christmas mass in Sandringham on December 25.

As a reminder, a press release published on January 17 by Kensington Palace announced that “the Princess of Wales was admitted to the London Clinic yesterday for scheduled abdominal surgery.”

The palace then gave no further details, but relayed the princess's “wish” “that her personal medical information remains private”.

“The operation was successful and she is expected to stay in the hospital for 10 to 14 days,” he said.

Faced with questions, Kensington Palace, however, passed the information to British royal correspondents that it was not cancer.
