Attention remains high and constant, with the addition of two important circumstances that lead the security forces to be even more alert: the serious attack in Moscow and the approaching Easter holidays.

The issue of the risks of terrorist attacks is once again central in Italy in these hours,

but the undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano, albeit with caution, limits the danger: in our country "the threat is not so much that of organized groups, I believe that a group" like the one that acted in the attack in Russia, "which cannot fail to have had preparation and logistical support, would be intercepted earlier in Italy".

The concrete threat is instead the self-activation of lone wolves "as has happened in other European states" and "the most worrying threat front is online recruitment, for which an anticipated fight has been taking place for years".

A discussion between the Italian leaders of the police force after the serious events last Friday at the Crocus City Hall, as already happens systematically, has become even more necessary at this point: in the next few hours at the Interior Ministry there will be a meeting of the National Committee for public order and security dedicated to an analysis of the situation after the bloody attack on Moscow.

"Italy has always maintained constant attention towards the terrorist threat, on multiple fronts - explains Mantovano - just as periodically at close range, for 15 years, the committee which brings together the leaders of the police and intelligence forces has met and aims to do the first main thing perhaps missing even in Moscow, that is, to spread the information".

The preventive monitoring system is working at full capacity, keeping the objective focused on the front of extremism and radicalization.

Moreover, as early as 7 October - the day of the Hamas attacks in Israel - in addition to the strengthening of all

observation and control devices, a reconnaissance of sensitive targets in Italy had been arranged, which number over 28 thousand, of which 205 attributable to Israel , mainly diplomatic offices or religious centers

.

And it is precisely on these places that the police are focusing, from places of prayer, in particular synagogues, to embassies and main transport hubs such as stations and airports.

The national committee had already met this week to decide on measures in view of Holy Week and the Easter holidays.

On that occasion, Minister Piantedosi had already highlighted the need to maintain high attention during the holidays, where in fact particular crowds are expected in various tourist places and cities.

Control of the 'digital squares' remains.

Most of the radicalized individuals present in Italy were identified precisely because they followed online propaganda.

A total of 26 people have been arrested on charges of international terrorism since 2023.

Thanks to the same law enforcement activities, 95 individuals considered dangerous to security were expelled, 45 of them since 7 October.

There is no shortage of initiatives in terms of preventive organization, such as that of last September 18th, when the new 'National Emergency Plan for the management of serious disturbances of public order and terrorist events' was approved.

Piantedosi himself recently explained that "the national planning was followed by a review of the territorial level plans by the provincial public security authorities for the reconnaissance of all the sensitive objectives present in the individual territories, to verify the degree of exposure to risk, as well as for any other possible prevention activity".
