"Today Italy honors and pays homage to the memory of the 335 victims of the FosseArdeatine massacre, a terrible massacre perpetrated by Nazi occupation troops as retaliation for the partisan attack on Via Rasella. The Ardeatine massacre is one of the deepest and most painful wounds inflicted on our community national and remembering what happened on that fateful March 24th eighty years ago is everyone's duty".
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declared this on the anniversary of the massacre.
Even the leaders of Parliament intervene: "It is our duty to safeguard the memory of the Fosse Ardeatine massacre with the killing of 335 people by the Nazis and which represents - states the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa - one of the darkest pages of our history. What happened on March 24, 1944 is a horror before which we can only bow, trusting and working so that such an atrocity can never be repeated again."
