The head of the editorial staff of La Provence Aurélien Viers, fired on Friday for an article deemed "ambiguous" by the newspaper on President Macron's visit to Marseille as part of the fight against drug trafficking, has been reinstated, announces the newspaper.
He will return to his duties on Monday.
“The management of La Provence is pleased to announce an agreement with Aurélien Viers, editorial director” whose “withdrawal of the layoff (...) was decided after a working meeting with Gabriel d'Harcourt, general director,” specifies the title in a press release.
Friday, in the wake of the announcement of this layoff, the title's journalists voted 79%, out of 163 votes cast, for an indefinite strike, demanding the "immediate reinstatement" of its director.
The latter, however, are maintaining a rally planned for Monday morning, a union delegate told AFP.
