Three speleologists were rescued inside the Grotta delle Canne in Minori (Salerno), where they had been trapped.
The rescue activity carried out in the evening by the men of the Salerno Coast Guard and personnel of the National Alpine Rescue Corps was complex.
The three speleologists, associated with the NaturaEsplora speleological group of Avellino, had entered the marine cavity called Grotta delle Canne yesterday evening for speleology and study activities with the intention of spending the whole night there and going out this morning.
However, having not had any news of the three since 11am, their association notified the Salerno Coast Guard operations centre.
The intervention of a rescue patrol boat and, by land, personnel from the National Alpine Rescue Corps was immediately arranged.
After the initial fruitless searches, the rescuers managed to get in touch with the three speleologists, who reassured them about their state of health, however, pointing out that they were unable to leave the cave with their boat due to sea conditions.
In the afternoon, with the sea slightly decreasing, the Coast Guard decided and coordinated the recovery: the three speleologists were extracted from the cave one at a time with the use of ropes and life jackets and taken safely onto the patrol boat, which transported them to Maiori where they spelologists landed and were visited.
They are all in good health.
