Unlike burnout, boreout syndrome is largely unknown.
But chronic under-challenge at work can also be dangerous.
The trend is alarming: the number of mental illnesses in the population is constantly increasing.
Stress and excessive demands are often the triggers, such as burnout syndrome.
But the opposite, i.e. constant under-challenge at work, can also be dangerous and lead to mental and physical problems.
If this happens to a person, it is called boreout syndrome.
According to a study, one in seven employees is affected by boreout syndrome
Even though boreout syndrome is not a recognized illness according to the
AOK
, it is widespread in Germany.
According to a study by the
Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and the Federal Institute for Vocational Training,
one in seven employees in Germany suffers from boreout syndrome.
Employees suffer from under-challenge and boredom over a longer period of time.

According tokarrierebibel.de
, psychological signs of boreout syndrome include
listlessness, insomnia, dissatisfaction, irritability and disorientation.
But the chronic lack of demand at work can also have a physical impact - including tinnitus, fatigue, dizziness, headaches and stomach problems, as well as a susceptibility to infections.
That's why it's important to take immediate action if you notice these symptoms in yourself.
You can combat the syndrome with five tips.
1. Conversation with the supervisor
As is so often the case in the working world, it is important to jump over your shadow and talk to your direct superior in order to change something about the current situation.
Beforehand, think carefully about what you could suggest to your boss to alleviate your problems.
“You don’t need to be afraid of this conversation.
A good boss is interested in motivated and satisfied employees.
Nobody benefits if you just serve your time with pay,” encourages

2. Use free time as compensation
You can define your life satisfaction by so much more than just your job.
That's why it's important to actively spend your free time alongside your job.
Athletic and mental exertion can help because it releases endorphins that make you happy.
In addition, successes in your free time can give you a feeling of strength, which you can also use for your situation at work.

3. Seek psychological help if you have boreout syndrome
Even if many people still shy away from it, it is not a sign of weakness to seek professional help for mental problems.
This also applies to boreout syndrome.
In such conversations, not only can your state of mind be improved, but ways out of the current problem situation can also be found.
4. Start further training or retraining
Since you are obviously dissatisfied with your current area of responsibility, you need to change something.
In-house training courses that qualify you for other tasks are often suitable.
However, you may also want to make a completely new start.
“If that is the case, you should consider whether retraining or a lateral entry into another profession is an option for you,” advises

.
5. Submit notice of termination
If you don't see any new prospects in your company after talking to your superiors, your last resort is to terminate your employment.
Even if there are legitimate reasons for termination, you should think about it carefully.
In particular, you should find out whether things look different at other companies in your industry than at your previous company.
Otherwise, you risk having the same problems with your potential new employer.
