The documents with which between 2018 and 2019 the then anti-mafia prosecutor, Federico Cafiero de Raho, highlighted the qualities of Pasquale Striano today take on the contours of the grotesque if placed in relation to the investigation by the Perugia prosecutor's office which considers Striano himself one of the minds behind the so-called dossier case reported by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto.
The background was revealed by Michele Carbone, the head of the Dia, in front of the parliamentarians of the Anti-Mafia commission.
"For service activities carried out at the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate - he said -, Striano was awarded 8 moral rewards, four commendations and four simple commendations".
These are official awards assigned by the prosecutor to the finance lieutenant who, five years later, would end up on the front pages of all the newspapers for unauthorized access to the databases of the anti-mafia prosecutor's office.
In a note dated 15 February 2019, we read that "Pasquale Striano has highlighted notable qualities of confidentiality and loyalty, a high and in-depth technical professional preparation, full availability and a high sense of duty, establishing excellent interpersonal relationships both with the magistrates of the office and with the remaining administrative and police personnel".
Words that, read today, leave you surprised.
"In particular - explained the head of the Dia - the inspector in the period in question played a fundamental role in the context of the pre-investigative activities carried out by the aforementioned working group which detailed themselves in carrying out delicate operational analyzes in the sector for reporting to combat crime organized, allowing the national anti-mafia prosecutor to fully exercise the coordination and impetus functions delegated to him by law".
