Piero Pittaro, doyen of Friulian winemakers (and beyond), has died at the age of 89.
A prominent personality in the international wine field, Pittaro was heir to a family of winemakers with 400 years of history behind it.
His company was based in Codroipo, in the heart of the Grave del Friuli, where he produced white and red wines.
He also established a wine museum where he set up around five thousand objects of interest related to the history of the vine and wine dating back to between 1600 and 1930.
Piero Pittaro was president of Assoenologi, president of the Bertiolo winery and of the regional wine center, as well as president of the Ente Friuli nel mondo.
