After months of stalemate, the Security Council has finally approved a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The document, which obtained 14 votes in favor and the US abstention, "calls for an immediate ceasefire for Ramadan respected by all parties which will lead to a lasting and sustainable ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as the guarantee of humanitarian access to meet their medical and humanitarian needs".
The adoption was greeted with long applause.
