A bag and a trolley abandoned on the walkways due to high water triggered the bomb threat in Piazza San Marco.
The police cordoned off the area between the bell tower and the entrance to the Basilica.
From initial indications, the two pieces of luggage had been noticed shortly before in front of the Palazzo Ducale, left unattended by some people.
Recalled by local police officers, the owners had moved them, and then abandoned them again near the bell tower of San Marco.
Given the international alert, the security alarm was triggered and a large part of the square was closed off to the unexpected passage of the bomb squad.
