The United States accuses seven Chinese nationals of carrying out cyberattacks that targeted members of Congress, White House officials, candidates and American companies.
Vast, 15-year attacks in which millions of Americans' online accounts were trapped as China's plot targeted American officials, the Justice Department and FBI say.
London today openly accused China of being behind the sustained cyberattack against the archives of the UK Electoral Commission, which began in August 2021.
“Today's announcement exposes China's continued efforts to jeopardize our country's cybersecurity and target Americans and our technology,” said FBI Director Christopher Wary.
"As long as China continues to target the United States and our allies, the FBI will continue to send its clear message that cyber espionage will not be tolerated, and we will relentlessly pursue those who threaten our security and prosperity." , Wray added.
According to American authorities, some hacking activities carried out by the seven accused Chinese were successful and compromised networks and email accounts.
Among the most alarming allegations made by the United States is that hackers have targeted the email accounts of several unnamed campaign officials since May 2020.
