Vinicius, Real Madrid striker, burst into tears during the press conference on the eve of the Spain-Brazil friendly: his "desire to play" football is "decreasing" as incidents of racism against him are repeated in Spain.
"I'm sorry.
I just want to play football. I want to do everything for my club, for my family and for black people to never suffer again. The fight against racism is extremely important," said Vinicius, before being overwhelmed by the emotion.
The player spoke on the occasion of the Spain-Brazil friendly match, organized in response to the racist insults of which he has often been the victim since his arrival in Madrid in 2018.
"I have lived it for a long time, every time I feel sadder and every I would have less desire to play every time", he explained, wiping away his tears.
The 23-year-old striker believes, like his teammate Dani Carvajal, that Spain is not "a racist country", but "that there are many racists, a large number in the stadiums".
"Since the first time I complained about racism in Spain, the situation has continued to get worse...
They insult me because of the color of my skin, so I play less well," he said.
Often targeted by opposing fans, 'Vini', who in spite of himself has become a leader in the anti-racist struggle, however assured that he "never thought" of leaving Real Madrid, because "this would prove the racists right".
"I will stay at the best club in the world, scoring as many goals as possible," promised Vinicius, who will be the most watched player on Tuesday at the Santiago-Bernabéu with the Seleção.
