How to discover tick nests.
In autumn, the female ticks look for a suitable spot and lay around 2,000 eggs there.
The pile of small pellets lies there over the winter until spring until the tiny larvae hatch.
Since these develop into disease-carrying bloodsuckers that you don't want in your garden, you should keep your eyes open for the nests.
“Tick caviar” can be found in dark, damp places in the garden
They can be found in light brown, dark brown or black: the tick eggs of the wood tick are smaller than the head of a matchstick.

The most common tick species in Germany is the common wood tick (Ixodes ricinus), not to be confused with the bark beetle that lives in the bark.
In this country, the species is the main transmitter of TBE (tick-borne encephalitis), which is caused by viruses, and Lyme disease, which is caused by bacteria.
The female wood ticks cover their eggs with a waxy protective layer - the shiny structures are also appropriately referred to as “tick caviar”.
However, they are anything but desirable in the environment of people and pets.
The parasite prefers the undergrowth and herb thickets of forests with increased humidity as a habitat, but it also feels comfortable in the grass and bushes in the garden in front of the door.

Tick nests with light brown to black eggs, like snail eggs, are found in small piles in dark, damp places in the garden where the eggs do not dry out so quickly.
Especially under leaves, flower pots, wood or stones.
Since ticks and their eggs are very tough and cannot be harmed by water, crushing or extreme cold, you should remove a clutch of eggs using gloves and a hand shovel.
The nest can now be placed in alcohol to kill the eggs or disposed of in the trash in a sealed vacuum bag.
In order to curb the proliferation of ticks in the garden, it helps to keep the lawn shorter by regularly mowing, pulling weeds and cutting back bushes.
