Gabriele Albertini communicated to FI secretary Antonio Tajani and Letizia Moratti his decision to "renounce the candidacy which - he wrote - you have so generously offered me".
"I am sincerely grateful and honored by the merit and esteem you have recognized in me - wrote Albertini - by the polite insistence with which, on several occasions, you have reiterated the offer. You know the reasons for my decision, perhaps prosaic but, from gained experience, certainly realistic. However, you can count on my full support in the next election campaign for ForzaItalia, its candidates and the EPP."
