Between January 2023 and February 2024, the City's prosecutors' offices dedicated to cybercrime received more than
108,000 reports of sexual abuse of children and adolescents.
This represents a monthly average of 8,314 reports and almost
280 daily cases
.
This data comes mainly from the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
(Ncmec) in the United States, thanks to an information exchange agreement.
In addition, there are complaints from NGOs and citizens from both the City of Buenos Aires and the rest of the country.
The
sustained increase in cases
motivated the City's Attorney General, Juan Bautista Mahiques, to create in 2020 the Specialized Prosecutor's Unit in Computer Crimes and Contraventions (UFEDYCI), directed by Dupuy.
Three years later, specialization in Computer Crimes and Contraventions was granted to Prosecutor's Office No. 17, headed by Tomás Vaccarezza.
