Moments of tension between students and police forces at La Sapienza University of Rome.
The problems occurred when a group of young people attempted to enter the Rectorate building where the assembly of the Collectives who occupied the structure last night was taking place.
La Sapienza Rectorate remained busy during the night
The rectorate of Sapienza remained occupied throughout the night by students from the collectives.
"We want a public discussion with the rector to discuss the students' requests", say the students who made an appointment at 12 today for a meeting at the rector's office.
Instead, they called a press conference at 10am.
Also today at 2.30 pm the academic Senate of the university is convened and the students of the collectives want that, as happened in Turin, the university does not participate in the Maeci tender which provides for collaboration with Israeli universities.
Sapienza was occupied late yesterday afternoon;
University Minister Anna Maria Bernini spoke by telephone with the rector of La Sapienza Antonella Polimeni.
"We slept in the assembly hall and we don't intend to leave here until we have answers", say the boys.
Polimeni, firm condemnation of all forms of violence
"In reference to the requests made by some students who have occupied some areas of the Rectorate in the last few hours, in reiterating the firmest condemnation of any form of violence and illegal and anti-democratic action, the University is available, as it always is state, to bring into discussion any requests from the student community, provided that these arrive in a shared manner through their representation in the Bodies and do not harm the democratic principles and the rights and freedoms of others".
This was stated by the rector of Sapienza University of Rome, Antonella Polimeni.
"Sapienza recognizes as communication and decision-making tools those defined by laws and regulations, informed by the rules of civil coexistence that guide the country. The Sapienza Statute provides the University with decision-making bodies composed of elected representatives of the various components of the Community academic, who bring the voice and opinions of the subjects represented to the bodies", recalled the rector.
