Tribes living in the Amazon have been using the hallucinogenic potion Ayahuasca in their rituals for centuries.

Now researcher Mike Currie tells the story of his powerful experience with the powerful drug.

The travel enthusiast claimed that he "saw a divine being" and "became nothing" when he stood in front of a huge and bright alien presence that he had trouble describing.

Speaking on his podcast, Fearless and Far, he described how he gathered with a group of people in a small cabin for this quasi-mystical experience.

He explained in a video titled "Dying and Seeing God in Ayahuasca": "There were about 10 or 15 of us sitting in a circle and the shaman poured this orange-green liquid into little cups. As he did this his hand reached out to the only candle that was sitting in the room and the shadow that appeared was like a giant tarantula that crosses the roof of the grass."

After everyone took a sip of the liquid, the candle went out, leaving them in complete darkness.

"It tasted like the clippings under a lawnmower - a mixture of fuel and plants and just... poison," he said.

It is common for people who have taken ayahuasca to vomit shortly afterwards and he has heard several people vomit into the bowls they were given at the start of the ceremony.

The first sip had little effect.

"It was me and one other guy who actually didn't feel much so we took another shot and things started to get going for me," he said.

Soon Mike began to see geometric shapes in repeating patterns - like the carvings on ancient temples in South America.

He added: "It makes you ask the question, 'Is what you see when you're on hallucinogens always there and that's what allows you to see it? Or is your mind painting what it thinks it needs to see in the world around you?'"

At this point, the whole world was covered in spinning patterns, but he decided to go out of the hut a little to pee.

He recalls: "I get up, it's all a mess of patterns but I think I can deal with it. I take my third whip... stumble out the door, walk maybe 3 meters outside, unzip my pants and try to pee but the problem is I was So much so that nothing came out so I stand there for I don't know how long...".

After a few minutes Mike threw up, at which point he realized he had no idea where he was.

He said: "I look around, trying to decipher the leaves and rocks from the patterns that mix in my eyes. I see this pile of leaves that twists like a bunch of snakes and I think: 'Well, it's probably not snakes.' It looks like leaves for a second and then it changes."

At this point Mike was so stoned he couldn't decide if his eyes were open or closed, so he decided to curl up on the forest floor under the blanket he was carrying.

"Then things got scary," he said, "I waded into the ocean and could barely float. I was holding on to a speeding train with my little finger, I didn't understand where I was anymore—lost in this world of swirling colored patterns. Then suddenly, with a bang, the world opened. It tore apart and a huge white light like A tractor beam just hit me right in the soul. Then I got this feeling of standing in front of something so powerful and feeling so insignificant - to feel that I was being watched - but in a way that I had never been watched before."

Mike had a feeling of absolute terror, as if he was being examined by an outside entity.

He added: "I felt so small compared to what I saw, almost as if you were to show an earthworm the blueprints of a spacecraft. The earthworm can't even begin to understand the paper the blueprints are printed on, let alone reach space. I was just out of my comfort zone and out of my understanding . There was this whole bright thing that I don't even have the right senses to be able to see what I saw."

Watch him tell about the experience:

He felt the need to offer something to this strange thing, but he didn't know what: "What do I give him? Money? Dishes? My shirt? The greatest gift we can give is our life, and I realized at that moment that I would be fine with it - not in a suicidal way - Simply 'You are everything and I am nothing and the greatest gift I can offer you is my life.'"

Mike

understood how the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures focused so much on human sacrifice.

"I traveled in Mexico and visited many Mayan sacrifice sites. My guide and friend Arturo and I saw crystal skulls that were cut and placed in caves for complete mineralization with obsidian blades, volcanic glass blades. They would give blood... Some people sacrificed themselves willingly and you realize in that moment that they were indeed They were hallucinating."

Mike's trip ended there, but it will never fade away completely.

He said that the special experience changed his life: "I cannot deny that my whole view of my place in life has changed completely. It has changed my life," he concluded.
