An object from “Titanic” that no cinema fan has forgotten.

The emblematic door which saved Rose from drowning but doomed Jack following the sinking of the Titanic, was sold at auction for the sum of 718,750 dollars (or more than 660,000 euros), during the Heritage Auctions sale dedicated to accessories of Hollywood cinema.

If the sale did not make it possible to establish whether or not there was room for the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio to take refuge with Rose on this floating door, its price attests to the myth that this object represents 25 years later the release of James Cameron's film.

In comparison, one of the dresses worn by Kate Winsley in the film was sold “only” for $125,000 (around 115,000 euros), or six times cheaper.

The famous ax from “Shining” also sold

During these auctions, several other accessories that had an important role in famous films were offered for sale.

We could notably find a whip that belonged to Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984), sold for $525,000 (around 480,000 euros), or the famous ax brandished by Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” ( 1980), sold for $125,000.

But it was the wooden door of the “Titanic” that was sold for the most money.

In total, the auction which lasted five days brought in no less than 15.68 million dollars (approximately 14.3 million euros) thanks to the more than 1,600 items sold.

“Most lots exceeded expectations thanks to the more than 5,500 bidders who participated worldwide, from Tokyo to the auction room at Heritage's global headquarters,” organizers said in a statement.
