The Turkish head of state, RecepTayyip Erdogan, will be welcomed by the president of the United States, Joe Biden, at the White House on May 9th.
This was reported by various Turkish media, while the visit has not yet been officially announced.
According to an article by Haberturk, the F-16 issue will be one of the topics at the center of the talks, after the American Congress recently agreed to sell the fighters to Ankara, a few weeks after the Turkish parliament approved Sweden's membership of NATO.
If confirmed, Erdogan's visit will be the first official visit to the US in the Biden administration.
The Turkish president saw Biden several times after his election in 2020 but always on the sidelines of international summits and the American president never made an official visit to Turkey during his mandate.
The last face-to-face meeting between Erdogan and Biden took place in Lithuania on 11 July 2023, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius.
