Returning to the main Italian squares on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April, "The Tomato for research. Good for you, good for the environment", an initiative of the Umberto Veronesi Ets Foundation designed to raise funds and finance research and treatment in the pediatric field, in order to guarantee the best possible care for children with cancer and increase their expectations of recovery.
The proceeds from the fundraising will help finance the Palm Research Project research and treatment platform, an international network for the development of new treatments for the treatment of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia.
The platform, financed by the Umberto Veronesi Ets Foundation, which will last 5 years, will involve the BambinoGesù Pediatric Hospital, the centralized diagnostic laboratory of the Haematological Oncology Clinic of Padua, the Experimental Oncology Department of the European Institute of Oncology of Milan and the Department of Leukaemia of the MD Anderson Cancer Center (HoustonUSA).
The initiative - informs a note - foresees that for an entire weekend - approximately 1,800 volunteers from the Veronese Foundation will be involved in more than 400 distribution points among squares, commercial activities, schools and companies to support scientific research aimed at finding a cure for tumors in the youngest children.
For a minimum donation of 12 euros, a pack of three steel cans of tomatoes will be distributed, in the peeled, pulped and cherry tomatoes versions: an initiative made possible thanks to the collaboration of Anicav (National Association of Industrial Vegetable Food Preserves) and Ricrea (National Steel Packaging Recycling and Recovery Consortium ).
