 - Prices rising for fish this week, due to the bad weather which has severely limited activities at sea, reducing quantity and variety at the counters, effectively dictating the rules for spending for Easter and Easter Monday.

    This is what emerges from a monitoring by Fedagripesca-Confcooperative for the marinas, remembering that Holy Week, after the Christmas holidays and summer holidays, is the period of the year in which consumption rises up to +50%.

    Bmti, the Italian telematic commodity exchange, also confirms increases and poor product availability, based on data collected in the Rome wholesale fish market of the Italmercati network.

    Among the few species available, compared to last week the prices of hake (from 11 euros/kg to 15 euros/kg for large ones), pink prawns (from 10 euros/kg to 12 euros/kg), cuttlefish ( from 13 euros/kg to 15 euros/kg).

Same fate for real octopus (from 13 euros/kg to 16 euros/kg).

The mussels are good, a typical dish in some southern regions for Holy Thursday, of excellent quality at stable prices compared to last year;

in the markets, Bmti reports, there is mostly the product coming from Taranto which is between 2.70 and 2.80 euros/kg.

    Going among the marinas, Fedagrioesca specifies that in Anzio, between bad weather and silting-up problems in the port, the operators don't know if they will be able to go out.

As for prices, explains Angelo Grillo, president of the La Concordia cooperative, "we only manage to sell well the top quality species such as squid, octopus, cuttlefish, prawns, turbot sole and snapper when we manage to catch them, prawns and scampi".

Good offer and rising prices for fishermen in Veneto in the last 45 days;

scampi rise from 18 to 42 euros per kilo wholesale, prawns (from 15 to 28 euros), but also cuttlefish which, given the mild temperatures, have brought the approach to the coast forward by 2 months to lay their eggs, arousing interest of the blue crab.

Even in the Marche, bad weather reduces fishing activity but here prices are holding up.
