The museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles is ready to display the dress that Gina Lollobrigida wore as the soprano Lina Cavalieri in 'The Most Beautiful Woman in the World'.

Designed by Sartoria Peruzzi for Robert Z. Leonard's 1955 film, the dress will be shown from March 28 to January 5 in the museum's main gallery, where the Stories of Cinema exhibition is on display, the pieces of which are constantly rotating.

Undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni announced the Hollywood institution's homage to Italian cinema.

"This is a particularly important recognition - underlines the senator -. It is in fact the first time that a costume worn by a great Italian star has been exhibited at the Academy Museum (designed by Renzo Piano). And this is a dress that Gina Lollobrigida she cared a lot, linked to a film in which she had also demonstrated her talent as a singer, playing the soprano without any dubbing, in a role that earned her the David di Donatello in 1956".

“We are thrilled and honored to expand the Academy's collection with these exceptional pieces. These vital components of the filmmaking process highlight the collaborative disciplines that develop and produce the films we love,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer in June, when the institution bought some new pieces, including the strapless black and cream-colored lace dress worn by the Italian actress who died in January 2023.

Hollywood recognition follows 'Gina's Worlds' exhibit, which was held in Rome from June to October last year, conceived and curated by Undersecretary Borgonzoni together with Chiara Sbarigia, president of Cinecittà.

"I thank the director of the Filming Italy Los Angeles festival, Tiziana Rocca," added Borgonzoni in a note, "and all those who worked to make Gina Lollobrigida's dream come true: to exhibit her dress at the Academy Museum."
