Vegan is healthy? Not necessarily, as a study by Ökotest shows. Many butter alternatives contain questionable ingredients.
Munich – More and more people are opting for a plant-based diet, which is now also widespread in discounters and supermarkets. Many of these stores offer their own vegan brands that are priced on par with animal products. Aldi has even expanded its vegan range to over 1,000 products. But despite the positive image, vegan does not necessarily mean healthier, as a current study by Ökotest shows. When testing vegan butter alternatives, almost all products failed miserably.

Ökotest has tested nine vegan alternatives to butter. In addition to the taste of the products, the focus was primarily on the ingredients. The result of Ökotest was shocking - at least traces of mineral oil were found in eight of the nine butter alternatives. As expected, seven products therefore failed. A disappointing result, even the best rated products can hardly be called winners. But at least these two products received a “sufficient” rating:

Therefore the composition of the products differs. Ökotest tests a large number of products and there are always surprising negative reviews, such as organic spaghetti, which recently disappointed Ökotest.
