A long weekend means busy roads! The Easter weekend and its public holiday Monday will generate increased traffic over a large part of the country, which leads Bison futé to see red in part of the country. This weekend also marks the start of school holidays for Luxembourg, notes the road safety organization.

“The intensity of weekend traffic will be directly linked to the weather conditions of the period. The majority of users will head towards vacation spots and coastal areas, located a medium distance from their homes,” explains Bison futé.

Friday and Monday classified red, difficulties expected on Saturday

If you are one of the lucky ones who will hit the road this

Friday

, the day is classified orange at the national level. Bison futé also places two regions on red alert, Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. In the Ile-de-France region, “traffic will be very heavy from late morning until mid-evening towards the various toll gates, particularly on the A6 and A10 motorways,” warns the organization. In terms of returns, everything will obviously be green.

For Saturday

,

the difficulties will be concentrated in Île-de-France in the direction of departures, for which Bison futé sees orange. “We may observe difficulties on the A10 and A6 motorways from early in the morning. Congestion should significantly intensify from mid-morning, particularly on the A6b, A6 and A10 motorways,” Bison futé predicts. Nothing to plan in the direction of returns, classified green, just like this

Sunday

whatever your destination.

Finally,

Monday

will see the returns of the majority of motorists. Bison futé anticipates very heavy traffic and classifies the day orange across the country. A color that even leans towards red for the six regions of the north-western quarter of the country: Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Centre- Loire valley. In the direction of departures, nothing to report however.

Areas to avoid

If you take the road this

Friday

in the direction of departures, you are above all advised to leave or cross Île-de-France before noon. Traffic will also be extremely dense on many routes, which it is best to avoid or take outside of the busiest times, as Bison futé suggests:

  • The A31 between Nancy and Luxembourg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • The A1 between Paris and Lille, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • The A13 between Paris and Caen, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • The A25 between Lille and Dunkirk, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • The A7 between Lyon and Orange, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The A72 between Nervieux and Saint-Étienne between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

  • The Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205) between France and Italy, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For Saturday

,

leave or cross the Ile-de-France region before 8 a.m. in the direction of departures, to avoid the main difficulties. On the other hand,

on Monday

, you will have to return or cross it before 2 p.m. in the return direction if you do not want to find yourself stuck in traffic jams. You will also need to be patient if you cannot take routes other than the busiest ones listed by Bison futé:

  • The A25 between Dunkirk and Lille, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The A13 between Caen and Paris, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The A10 near Orléans, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The A7 between Orange and Lyon, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • The A43 between Chambéry and Lyon, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The N85 between Gap and Grenoble, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Traffic difficulties could be recorded throughout the afternoon and until late in the evening in Île-de-France, especially on the A10, recalls Bison futé.
