"Last night they again launched Shahed missiles and drones at people. But we defend ourselves, we resist, our spirit does not give up and knows that it is possible to avert death. Life can prevail.
May all prayers for protection from bad to be heard today. May faith unite all good hearts and strengthen those who defend their home. And may true peace come closer for all Ukraine and for all nations suffering from wars." The Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, writes this in a post on X for Easter. "Have a peaceful Easter! My greetings to the Ukrainians and all Christians who celebrate Easter today. It is a holiday - he adds - that reminds us of the power of the spirit that will not allow the darkness to prevail. It will not allow the will to be put in the shadow. It unites families, nations and continents. Now there is no night or day in which Russian terrorism does not try to break our lives", concludes Zelensky.
Zelensky has meanwhile announced new government reshuffles, after yesterday he fired two other members of the Presidential Office and four advisors. “We continue to restart our state institutions: several changes have been made this week and there are still more decisions in preparation,” he said in his usual end-of-day message to the country on Saturday evening.
At least one civilian lost his life last night in the Lviv region, in western Ukraine not far from the Polish border, in a night-time bombing by the Russians. This was stated by the governor of the oblast, Maksym Kozytsky. "Tonight the enemy attacked with cruise missiles the same essential infrastructure" that had "already been targeted previously on March 24 and 29," Kozytsky wrote on Telegram, adding that "one man was killed" in raid and that the defense forces shot down 9 missiles and 9 Russian drones over the Lviv region. During the night the Russians "again attacked the infrastructure of Odessa and due to damage caused to the Ukrenergo power plant, 170,000 houses were cut off" from the energy distribution, which was then restored in the morning.
Poland scrambled fighter jets again tonight to protect its airspace following a Russian missile attack on Ukraine. This was announced by the Warsaw armed forces. “Polish and allied planes are in the air, which could lead to an increase in noise levels especially in the south-eastern part of the country,” the Polish army reported on its X account after detecting “intense aviation activity long-range missiles of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine".
