Anyone who receives child benefit should keep track of the payment dates. Parents can find out when these dates are in April here.
Munich – Child benefit is an important social benefit for many parents or legal guardians in order to cover the care of their child. Parents currently receive 250 euros for each child per month. In addition to this benefit, the child allowance is also paid at the same time. The payment dates for child benefit differ every month. They depend on the final digit of the child benefit number. The Federal Employment Agency announces this on its website.
Payment dates for child benefit in April: child benefit number is decisive
The last number of the so-called child benefit number is decisive for the payment date of child benefit. It is decisive for when the benefit is transferred to the account. For example, if it ends with the number 7, this number determines the day on which the benefit is transferred to the family fund. That would make April 18th.

The child benefit number can be found in every letter that parents receive from the family fund, i.e. at the top right in the contact details of the responsible family fund.

However, when making appointments, parents should note that the dates are the transfer dates. This is usually not the day on which child benefit and child allowance end up in your own account. Because the family fund has no influence on when the banks post the money to the recipient account.
Facts about child benefit and child allowance:
Child benefit and the child allowance are always paid out at the same time by the family fund. The last digit of the child benefit number - the so-called final digit - decides when the corresponding amounts are transferred to the legal guardian's account.
Parents can claim the child allowance if their monthly income - for example gross income from employment, unemployment benefit or sickness benefit, excluding housing benefit and child benefit - reaches the respective minimum income limit.
The minimum income limit is 900 euros gross for parent couples and 600 euros gross for single parents. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs (BMFSFJ) has advocated for this to be increased from January 1, 2024 - from up to 250 euros to up to 292 euros per month per child. The surcharge is usually granted for six months. It must then be applied for again.

The Federal Agency cites technical reasons as an explanation for the different payout dates. Basically, the higher the number, the later the parents will receive the amount.
It is already clear that from next year basic child benefits will replace child benefit. However, according to the BMFSFJ, the exact height cannot yet be predicted precisely today. According to the ministry, depending on their age, children could probably receive up to 530 euros (0 to 5 years), 555 euros (6 to 13 years) or 636 euros (14 to 17 years) from 2025. (sthe)
