This is their time. The caterpillars of the pine procession/Omer Golan, KKL-Junk
Every year towards spring, they come out into the wild, and you all meet them: the pine beetle caterpillars - small and hairy caterpillars that can cause irritation to the skin and eyes - these days flood the country and are found along dozens of routes and hiking trails.
The National Fund for Israel warns travelers against the pine processionary (also known as the "Twie the procession"), as it likes pine trees and is especially found in forests. When visiting the forest, avoid contact with the pine beetle larvae, which carry stinging hairs and the remains of their nests. The larvae may be found on the trunks and on the ground, and their stinging hairs are also found in their crumbling nests made of white webs.
The caterpillar got its name as a result of its favorite pine trees/Omer Golan, KKL-Junk
According to KKL-Junk, various teams are making a considerable effort to reduce this hazard in parking lots, but the larvae are found in most of the pine forests in Israel. Therefore, one should avoid staying and working in the area suspected of being infected and where there are nests of the hornet. If skin or eye irritation appears after visiting the pine forests, one should contact to the doctor and update us on the exposure to the larvae of the pine beetle.
