It's tempting to take a few spring flowers home with you while you go for a walk. But there is a risk of a hefty fine. Because many are protected species.
Hamm - Spring is taking its course and just in time for the start of spring, mild temperatures are luring people outside. Some people might notice snowdrops and other signs of spring while taking a walk. It's tempting to take a piece of blooming nature into your own living room. But anyone who simply picks certain spring flowers and takes them home is committing an administrative offense. There is a risk of a fine of up to 50,000 euros, reports wa.de.
Up to 50,000 fine: These spring flowers are not allowed to be picked
As the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BMUV) explains, there is general and special species protection. If plants fall under special species protection, they may under no circumstances be picked or dug up. Spring flowers such as snowdrops fall below.
Anyone who still picks the spring flowers must expect a sometimes high fine, which varies depending on the federal state. An overview from

And the Association for Nature Conservation in Bavaria eV adds: “In the wild, wild pussy willow branches may not be cut off between March 1st and September 30th according to the Nature Conservation Act.” This goes back to Section 39, Paragraph 5 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. Pussy willows are often displayed as Easter decorations.
The gardening season also begins just in time for the start of spring. But be careful: not all plants survive on the terrace or balcony in March.
