"I prepare Roubaix in the heat of Spain." Word of Mathieu Van der Poel who, after the feat in Flanders, is ready to take on another challenge in one of the great cycling classics.
The 2024 Paris-Roubaix is scheduled for next Sunday, and Van der Poel, who declared his goal of a double Classic at the start of the season, is the number 1 favourite.
"When I'm in Spain - the Dutchman said on the Live Slow, Ride Fast podcast - I manage to do long training sessions very frequently. I leave in the morning at 9 and return in the afternoon at 4 and I can also stop for something to eat along the way "Training here becomes easier and there's always someone to hang out with. When I was in Belgium, the group of guys I trained with eventually didn't move on because they all stopped cycling."
