Tile joints can quickly become a dirt trap. But fortunately there are ways to make the gaps shine again without chemicals.

Over time, a lot of dirt collects in the gaps between floor tiles. This causes the joints to turn unsightly brown. Wiping with a damp cloth alone is no longer enough. In order to get the tile joints bright or even white again, you need something stronger. Luckily, home remedies that clean the joints with natural ingredients – such as baking soda – can also do this job.

Baking soda is considered a true miracle cure in the household. Our grandmothers used the white powder not only for baking, but also to get rid of stubborn dirt (e.g. on baking sheets). The baking soda contained in baking powder dissolves grease and other deposits and ensures surfaces are sparkling clean again.

How to use baking soda to clean grout:

  • Pour the contents of a packet of baking soda into a bowl.

  • Mix the powder with water until a mushy paste is formed.

  • Apply the baking soda mixture to the tile joints with a toothbrush.

  • Then let the paste work for about an hour.

  • After the exposure time, clean the joints with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.

  • Finally, dry the joints with a microfiber cloth and polish carefully.

  • The mixed paste can be used to clean more than just the joints on the floor tiles. Tile joints in the bathroom and greasy joints in the kitchen can also be refreshed in this way.
