The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, "condemns" the attack against Iran in Damascus and reaffirms that "the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular offices and personnel must be respected in any case in accordance with international law". In a note from the spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric "invites all concerned to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation. Any miscalculation could lead to a wider conflict in an already unstable region, with devastating consequences for civilians".
