"I'm not leaving, but I'm not leaving either": Mariolina De Francesco, who will be expropriated of the house in which she lived with her husband and daughters for 23 years on the Messina shore where a pillar of the bridge over the Strait should be built, is combative and reiterates: "if my house If I were to give it up for an oncology hospital for children, I would give it up, but not for something useless like this."
What if the bridge had to be built anyway? "We would live for years among construction sites in Calabria and Sicily. But not only that: the Strait of Messina must not be touched; as National Geographic said in September 2022, CapoPeloro beach is the most beautiful Italian beach from a naturalistic point of view. Article 9 of the Constitution says that areas rich in biodiversity and naturalistic value are untouchable. And the Sicily region made a decree in 2001 in which it says that the Capo Peloro area is a valuable area that must be safeguarded. The same region that now gives it billions. ..".
